Premenopause/Menopause Symptoms

IRRITABILITY

Just like PMS, premenopause can bring on feelings of irritability, crankiness and even rage, but instead of just a few days prior to a woman's moon (period), it can start as early as 10 days after your last moon since women generally ovulate earlier in their cycle during these years rather than day 13 or 14. That's a lot of tough days each month! In fact, some premenopause women ovulate for the next cycle while they are still bleeding - part of what makes this the second most common time for unplanned pregnancy. Yikes!

Developing greater sensitivity may actually be a blessing; a heightened sense of smell, touch, taste and hearing can be Mother Nature's way of encouraging us to live in the present. Sometimes premenopause is a time when we need to be anti-social, reserving most of our energy for ourselves. However, these challenging days often come at the same time we have hormonal adolescents in the house which can be quite a challenge. It's enough to make you wonder if God is purposely pulling out all the stops to make us crazy. Or perhaps it's her way of enlarging our hearts with greater compassion for those experiencing similar shifts in emotions. Go for the latter choice.

If you have previously experienced the black cloud of depression, this irritability is actually a sign of healing. Many psychotherapists believe depression to be anger turned inward, so when we start to feel annoyed and irritable with others it can be an important sign of healing. With the menstrual moon ebbing, then flowing in unpredictable floods, sweat-drenching hot flashes coming at the worst possible moments, sleep disturbances and less vaginal lubrication, who wouldn't be feeling cranky?

QUICK TIPS

  • Herbal relaxants such as lemon balm, skullcap and hops often help
  • Consider doing some therapy about the issues you've been stuffing too long which may be coming out sideways.
  • Lavender essential oil, just a touch under the nose or in the shower
  • Rescue Remedy, a Bach flower remedy often provides instant relief

The Path to Better Living

You have already taken the first step on your journey.  I work directly with you to uncover the sources of your body's imbalance and create remedies to restore, rejuvenate, and heal.

  1. We'll begin by filling out your Health History Form, to determine the best approach for your personal needs.  Download a PDF file of the form here.  If you do not have downloading capabilities, contact me and I will mail it to you promptly.

  2. Once you have filled out the appropriate information, send me the form, via email or snail mail, along with a recent photograph of yourself.

  3. We will next engage in a one-on-one private consultation, either in person or over the phone, where I can pinpoint the right herbal remedies and lifestyle changes for you.  For pricing, see my Herbal Consultations page.

  4. I then create for you a customized health plan which will include suggestions for diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes that will work in conjunction with a specially formulated herbal remedy that I design to target your personal needs.  Potential herb/drug interactions are taken into consideration.

  5. Many patients begin treatment with one pound of dried herbs selected from my personal pharmacy, which you will enjoy as a strong tea known as an herbal infusion.  But most remedies are supplied in tincture form, with only a teaspoon or two per day needed to make it easy for you.

  6. Approximately 80-85% of clients start seeing positive results within 2-4 weeks, often in just a few days.

  7. I will continue to communicate with you via phone or email consultations, and we will work together to help you re-create the strongest, healthiest body possible.  In the case of chronic ailments, you may need to allow one month of treatment for each year you have had the problem. But you should see at least a 10% improvement in the first few weeks.
